AR15 Forward Assist Assembly - Teardrop

I bought 1 of these in Nov.2021 and I'm impressed at how well made and accurate this part is to original M16A1 teardrop forward assist. These are almost clones to the original Colt's aside from the dark black finish. I have seen many of the originals from my time going through basic and at my unit and these are generally a dark gray with the occasional black depending on vendor or arsenal rebuilds. Overall a great product for retro builds or anyone with a desire for something different on their AR.

The product seems like good quality, but the ridges on the face of the tear drop are straight vertical instead of at an angle (aligned with the outside edge of the tear drop) like the originals. I looked at the picture before I ordered, but it was tough to be certain. Not a good reproduction if you’re fussy about accurate details for a retro build like I am.

I ordered this to replace the round assist on my M4. Not only is it priced great, but the quality is first class. My item arrived safely thanks to being well packed and protected. This was my first order from JSE and it was a great experience.

Just like my issued M16A1. Much more effective than the round FA. Great price, fast shipping, what else can you ask for? Along with the A1 stock, hand grip, three prong flash hider and triangle hand guards my new carbine is just what I want. Thanks JSE!

Even in the military, I’ve never “needed” to use a forward assist but this is the style I was issued. We were taught to hit them with the palm of our hand, just below the thumb. Doing that with the new, smaller button style would likely hurt! In addition, if needed, one would likely be short on time and the “teardrop” style just makes sense. I purchased two to upgrade newer button style uppers. My personal opinion, they look better too.

I prefer the tear drop forward assist over the round forward assist. It's a personal preference. To me it looks cleaner and fills in the area. It's more pleasing to the eye. I used the M16A1 in the Marines and it had a tear drop foward assist. When the new M16's came out with the round forward assist I didn't see any benefits. Maybe it was weight. I heard maybe it was because it could snag on brush. Really? I think it was changed for the sake of change. I just prefer it for the cosmetics. No better or worse.

This may be considered "retro" but it's one of the best F/As made (IMO). My main reason I got this (have 3 of them) is... when charging a weapon (with a ambi-charger), from the right side, I wouldn't scrape my knuckle across the stupid round F/A. Works great for preventing this.... Has half again as much surface area over the round F/A that needs a hammer, block of wood, or a kick with a boot to use effectively. I ordered this product because of the picture. The product sent was a different teardrop style with hard edges. It appears to be good quality, but is isn't the same as the picture. I wanted the smoothed edge teardrop. If you want the one pictured, then DON'T order this. The 1 star is because what they sent isn't the same as the picture. If you don't care, then it's probably fine. *** Added by JSE *** We are updating the picture. We received forward assists for a very long time from 2 companies. This is the first time we have had an issue with the style of the item. Sorry for the inconvenience. We are returning the product from the customer.
